Salvation Favors the Failures

ree

In a broken world, there’s no shortage of pain and suffering. To live in this world is to face disappointment, sorrow, struggle, and unhappiness. No child learns to walk without falling down. No one loves without having their heart broken. No one succeeds without failing. Pain is the teacher. It is the measure by which we understand joy and happiness. A broken heart is a heart ready to know love. A sick man is a man ready to be healed.

The dancing flame atop the melting candle is no more welcome than in the dead of night beneath a blackened sky.

Jesus came for the broken. He came to save those who are lost. That we are lost in the wilderness is what gives us the joy of being found. Yes, this world is full of pain, but pain is the price to pay for relief. Sickness is the bill for being healed. Being lost is the hope of being found. Failure is nothing more than a waiting triumph, ready to succeed.

A failure is someone who has not yet succeeded.

The message I have for you is simple. Keep going. Don’t give up. The greatest athletes, movie stars, politicians, writers, fathers, mothers, and friends become great after they fail. It is their drive to keep going and try again that makes them great. Not one of us succeeds the first time. No matter what our station in life or who we’re trying to be, we will fail. What separates the great from the mediocre, the wheat from the chaff, is perseverance.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.- Hebrews 11:1

Hope is sometimes small, blurry, and distant. It is what we cling to even when it seems tattered and worthless. Reaching the top of Mount Everest means climbing without seeing the top. Hope means believing when we have every reason to give up. Faith means praying even when we can’t hear the answer. Faith is assurance that our prayers will be answered.

Salvation is about second chances.

Christ came for the two-bit losers, the thieves, the liars, the murderers. He came to save those who don’t deserve it. His love is for those who shouldn’t have it. Today is your day. It is your moment to try again. Forget about yesterday and try again today.  Keep climbing even though you can’t see the top. Don’t give up.

Fortune may favor the bold, but salvation favors the failures.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.- 2 Corinthians 12:10
